Gold Beach, one of the five D-Day landing beaches, is located a few minutes' walk from the castle.
This is where British forces landed on June 6, 1944.

British Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer

Dominating Gold Beach, this memorial pays tribute to the 22,000 Commonwealth soldiers who fell during the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy.
